Dovetailed barrels are fitted with slightly raised matted concave rib. Barrel flats are stamped with 1973 nitro proofs for 2-3/4" chambers. Coin finished sidelock action is marked on water table "PER GIANOBERTO LUPI" "1973" along with proofs, makers name, logo, and serial number. Action features non-automatic safety, hidden third fastener, and single non-selective trigger. It is well filed and finished, and engraved with near full coverage well executed large open acanthus scroll surrounding heads of parrot-like mythological beasts on lockplates, as well as on bottom of action. No engravers signature is found. Top lever and trigger guard are blued and also scroll engraved. Very fine burl and stump figured European walnut straight grip buttstock with black Decelerator pad, and features drop points, as well as well cut point pattern checkering at grip. Matching splinter ejector forend has Anson release. Accompanying this gun is a letter from Mr. Lupi (author of many books on fine Italian shotguns) regarding this gun with an attached original note from the maker, Salvatore Cortesi, in Italian. A translation page dated February 1978 states "Since I have to give up one of my doubles, I will relinquish it at the price of ten million lires ($11,700.00), and do not feel like duplicating it in the future." Also included is a Cortesi trade label. This well made gun is housed in a black leather case with stitched leather corners lined in scarlet velvet. Excellent, with evidence of casual use and some freshening. Barrels retain nearly all of what appears to be their original blue, with a few very minor marks. Action retains nearly all of its coin finish with some evidence of cleaning, mostly on bottom. Stocks retain nearly all of their original hand rubbed oil finish with some areas worn a bit thin near grip. Grip checkering has been cleaned. Checkering on forend has not been freshened. Bores are excellent. Action is tight. Barrels are on face. Ejectors are in time. Trigger works. Case leather is very fine with some light scuffs. Interior is fine with soiling and rubs.
