This carbine has the standard features with a correct 1873 carbine rear sight, single barrel band, saddle ring and bar, trigger guard without a sling swivel and U.S. marked trapdoor buttplate without trap door. Wooden carbine stock with faint cartouche "ESA" for Erskine S. Allin. The bock has correct 1873 markings and lockplate is undated. Metal is basically gray brown patina with some scattered marks from use. Front sight blade is a replacement done during the period of use and a screw was put below the lockplate, near the back for unapparent reasons. Fine action. Strong rifling with some black powder abrasion. This is an early and honest carbine in the correct serial range.
