New for 1940, the rifle with zing, the ideal tool for practice in the field, comes the new Targo 42 TR bolt action .22 rifle. It's a rifle, it's a shotgun, it's a trap thrower! Mossberg introduced this smoothbore .22 bolt action rifle with rifle sights that had an attachment that would allow a shooter to load and pull and 2-11/16" clay target. there is an 8" screw-on choke that allows the .22 pattern to open up the last 8" with a shotgun spread capable of downing these little clay birds. The attachment was sold separately and would fit in the Models 42, 26, 320 and 340 but was told with the Model 42TR specifically made for this thrower. Features round barrel, adjustable rear sight, post front sight, bolt action, six shot magazine fed, pistol grip hardwood stock and the attached thrower as well as the choke tube. Wood is very good to excellent with usual minor dings. Frame retains 98% original blue with patina starting to show through. the cover is brown patina. Barrel is blue mixed with brown patina with some freckling near factory stamps, which are excellent. Tube is basically blue-brown patina. Trap thrower is blued. Remington made a cartridge called the ".22 Klay Bird" round but the .22 shotshell was listed in the 1900 Sears catalog, so it had been around for at least 40 years prior to the invention of this smoothbore rifle. You can still find the clay pigeons for sale, loosely, from time to time. Mechanism is in full operating order. Fine bore and action.
