Total production of these arms was 4,021. They were made from 1855 until 1857, this specimen is dated 1856. Many of these guns were issued to the 1st and 2nd US Cavalry for use in the West. Standard markings with re-stamped 1856 date on lock and on the breechplug tang. Complete with reproduction buttstock. CONDITION: Metal surfaces have been heavily cleaned and show medium and light pitting overall. Markings have been refreshed. Wood on both the gun and stock have been refinished, with a small piece below the lockplate replaced. Bore is worn with pitting, but still has light visible rifling. Rear sight a modern replacement. Good mechanical function.
