Half octagon barrel rifles in .22 caliber are rarely seen. Factory letter lists this rifle as being shipped July 25th, 1887 with half octagon barrel, in .22 Short caliber with folding peep and globe sights (now replaced) and in half nickel finish. Rifle is referenced in Jim Gordon's book "Winchesters New Model of 1873 A Tribute" on pages 202 and 528 This rifle features full magazine, sporting sights, blued/nickel finish, walnut stocks and rifle butt. All metal surfaces on this rifle retain a pleasing, smooth plum, homogenous patina with only traces of nickel finish in recesses frame. Walnut stocks are excellent and proud to metal. Fine action. Bore shows fairly strong rifling.
