This is a Sauer 1940 dated 98k. The Sauer marking was removed when the dovetail for the front scope base was installed, however the receiver shows both Eagle/37 and Eagle/359 Waffenamts, these are repeated on other parts of the rifle. Matching with the exception of the bolt. The bolt assembly is matching of itself. Script "1940" date on chamber. Block "Mod.98" marking on left side of receiver. Front sight hood and cleaning rod. Original leather sling. At some point, the double claw mounts were added to this gun and a period "K.KAHLES/ WEIN/ H/4X60" marked scope with sniper reticle was added. CONDITION: The gun has traces of original finish, mostly a pleasing patina with minor areas of very light pitting. All markings are clear. Wood is good with handling marks and shows age and use. Bore is rusty with visible rifling, most likely pitted. Fine mechanical function. The scope retains some original finish but is mostly a patina. Markings are clear. The rear claw mount has come detached from the scope body and would need to be carefully silver soldered back on. Optics are good.
