Decorated Civil War Period Canteen A model 1858 smooth-side canteen, complete with the old cover. The decoration was hand-applied near the turn of the century, quite certainly after the war, and perhaps was for a GAR or Veteran's post and perhaps used as a decoration there. Decorated with colorful dogwood flowers with a panel in the center depicting snowy scene with cottage by fence. Up near the spout is the number 142 painted. The size of the canteen is approximately 8" in diameter. CONDITION: Generally good, however the covering is soiled. Strap and cork stopper are missing. 20-8194 ($600-$900)
