.54 CAL. OL: 48 - 3/4". BL: 33". This 1841 "US 1848" Mississippi rifle is marked the same and also "Remington's Herkimer, NY". The front barrel band and bayonet may indicate an alternation by "J.H. Happolf, Charleston, SC" according to "Confederate Rifles and Muskets", chapter 24, pgs. 354-355, thereby possibly indicating Confederate usage. The barrel surface is also marked "JOB/P/US" with some pitting at the breech tang. All walnut stock surfaces are rounded and the stock has been cleaned and lightly varnished.
