The engine base is wood covered with sheet metal. The upright engine is of the early design with the round vent holes on the top of the firebox. Brass boiler with the early “wheel" type whistle valve. This variation has the 10” wood base under the entire toy. Introduced circa 1896 and produced until circa 1914.
