Weeden no. 23 “Caloric Engine” (hot air engine) with original wood box. This engine runs on the principal that heated air expands and cooled air contracts. The first patent for this principal was obtained in 1816. The flywheel is mounted on the fuel tank. This model is mounted on cast legs. Introduced circa 1895 and continued in production until circa 1916. This is a very interesting and desirable toy depicting a successful method of producing minimal power in the 1800s.
