American. Circa 1900 to 1918. All cloth with beautifully hand-painted face featuring large detailed eyes with highlights and a shaded mouth, painted bobbed hair with center part and brush strokes around her face. Cloth body with joints at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees, painted lower limbs. Wearing vintage cotton panties and replaced dress. Very good condition with some wear on her hair and side of her face, a tiny poked-in hole on her upper cheek, two tiny poked-in holes on the back of her head, and another tiny one on her back shoulder, light soil on her limbs. Paint appears to be original. Maggie Bessie Dolls were made by the Pfohl sisters (Maggie and Bessie) in the Moravian town of Salem, North Carolina beginning in 1893.
