1825 to 1840. Unsigned. School of Western Pennsylvania or possibly Southern. OL: 52 - 1/2". BL: 38". TBL Octagonal. LM: Percussion. PB: 2-piece. S: Plain maple. 3 silver inlays. While the percussion lock is a replacement, this rifle was likely a flintlock, and the barrel shows signs of having been shortened a few times. However, the two-piece brass patchbox, toe-plate, and sideplate are beautifully engraved. There is a piece of wood set in behind the upper part of the lock, and there is an old tin re-enforcement to the forestock on the left side.
KENTUCKY RIFLE.
