1840 to 1860. OL: 52 - 1/2". BL: 36". TB: Octagonal. LM: Percussion. PB: Oval. S: Plain maple. Signed. Maker: J.F. Brant. School: Western Pennsylvania. This rifle is original throughout and has the typical oval or “toilet seat” style of patchbox found in this era. The curly maple stock appears to have its original finish and has an interesting “wrist-repair”, with old, period “cording” used as a wrap. This old repair should be left intact, as it is very well-done and is not obscuring any carving, etc.
KENTUCKY RIFLE.
