Circa 1830 to 1850. OL: 56". BL: 42". TB: Octagonal. LM: Percussion. PB: 4-piece. S: Curly maple. School: Somerset County. Relief carving. 2 silver inlays. This relief-carved Kentucky rifle appears to be related to Jacob Dunmeyer’s work in Somerset County, Pennsylvania. The pierced four-piece patchbox is a re-cycled one but is period to the gun. The relief-carving is typical of that general area and the figured curly maple stock has its original finish.
KENTUCKY RIFLE.
