68'' T (on stand) x 18'' W x 23'' D. 34'' T x 17'' W x 17'' D (unit only). Unique and interesting piece, it touts itself as a 200 year old toy, used by kings and dukes for their amusement. The story goes on to say the unit was run by spirits or a trained monkey. In actuality, this fun piece utilized an electro-mechanical puppet device to move its arms to open a small basket of snakes for a mere 10-cents. While originally spring wound, it has been upgraded to an electrical motor. The puppet and its motions are reminiscent of a Roovers device and even the Genco Fortune Teller device. There are no brand names or makers stamped on any part of this unit. It sits on a generic stand filled with more modern devices to enhance its attractiveness. There is a reel-to-reel taped segment and a speaker so that 10-cent activated snake charmer music and a talking segment about the 200 year old unit can be heard. The puppet moves its head and uses its hands to open a basket full of snakes. The sequence repeats for one thin dime. The princely puppet is garbed with regal attire and is really unique. A real attention getter, lots of fun, and we've never seen another one like it. Good working order.
