"Minding the Strays". Unknown American artist. Signed illegibly at lower right, dated 1912. American Western. Powerful depiction of a cattle hand minding a stray cow and her calf. Impressionistic style. The cattle hand stares at the fading sunlight, knowing he must get back down the hill to the rest of the herd before dark. Lots of vitality in the artist’s brushstroking. This painting could benefit from a cleaning.
