"1881 Paddle-Wheel Steamer coming into the NY Harbor". Terrific hand-colored print. Nationalistic fervor in the 1880s lead to American emblemage- note the gold eagle perched a top the pilot house, with wings proportionate to the men on deck. American flags billow in the wind. Battery Park and the Statue of Liberty shine on the left background, while NJ is in the right background. A tugboat meanders in the foreground, the mates waving to the passengers who stand on the deck of the USS City of Rome, anxiously waiting to disembark at the piers between 50th and 70th streets. This print is an excellent candidate for restoration. There is acid burn from board coming through, tape residue, and tears on the right and left sides. Overall, an absolutely fabulous classically historical American print. As is.
