SMITH & WESSON PRE-MODEL 36 CHIEF SPECIAL DOUBLE ACTION REVOLVER WITH "MASS. STATE POLICE" MARKED ON BACKSTRAP.SMITH & WESSONCHIEF SPL PRE M 369507138 SPLMODERN; C&RCal. .38 Special, 1-7/8" bbl, blue finish, checkered walnut grips, early pinned bbl flat latch configuration. "MASS. STATE POLICE" rolled engraved on backstrap. SN matches on frame, bbl, cyl, and inside right grip. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl retains 95% bright blue with some plumming of finish. Bore is frosty with strong rifling. Cyl retains 95% blue with very little high point wear and slight drag mark. Chambers are good. Frame retains 95% bright blue with slight high point wear and miniscule handling marks. Hammer and trigger retain nearly all of vivid case color. Grips are very fine with sharp checkering and fine Smith & Wesson medallions. A very nice early Chief Special with Mass. State Police association. Merits further research. 49616-5 TEP (800-1,000)
