SCARCE REMINGTON MODEL 1875 GRADE 5 HAMMER GUN.REMINGTON1875 GR. 51712 GA12 Ga. 30" bbls. 2-1/2" chambers. Choked: MOD/MOD. Full length twist steel Damascus rib with extremely rare rib marking "E. REMINGTON & SONS NEW YORK & LONDON", steel front bead. Double triggers, extractors, no safety. 14-3/8" LOP over lightly engraved full steel buttplate with widow''s peak. English grip with long trigger guard tang, 2-point mullered border checkering with teardrops behind lockplates. Splinter forearm with Deeley release and nearly full coverage 2-point checkering and beautifully fully engraved steel forend tip. Receiver scroll engraved. Both lockplates marked "E REMINGTON & SONS". Bottom of frame with scroll and diamond and triangular pattern. Trigger guard bow and tang with scroll engraving and leaf pattern. Bottom of frame also nicely engraved with zig-zag pattern at scallops. This exact gun pictured in Volume 17, issue 3 of Double Gun Journal pages 79-87 in an article entitled "New York and London, Remington Whitmore Model 1875" written and photographed by the late Remington expert Chalres Semmer. Weight: 7 lb 1 oz. PROVENANCE: The Estate of B.E. "Andy" Anderson. CONDITION: Excellent. Bbls retain 80% laminated twist pattern, with a few dents and scratches. Receiver retains traces of orig case color. Trigger and buttplate retain 35-45% of their orig high polished blue. Stock and forearm are excellent with light handling marks and scratches and retain 90-95% of their orig varnish. Outsides of hammers appear blued, though tops are clearly case colored. Mechanics are excellent. Bores are bright and shiny with scattered frosting. An extremely rare high grade Remington hammer gun. 49531-65 JSL116 (3,000-5,000)
