VERY EARLY 20 GAUGE BROWNING SUPERPOSED WITH GRADE IV ENGRAVING. BROWNING SUPERPOSED GRADE IV 1829 20 GA MODERN (1950) Cal. 20 ga. 2-3/4" Chambers. 28" Bbls marked for IC and Mod, are fitted with narrow, ventilated rib, marked with early Browning St. Louis address with steel and chamber information on left, with Browning patent information and "MADE IN BELGIUM" on right. Coin finished action with non-automatic safety and gold plated single selective trigger, is engraved with early grade IV European style showing near full coverage oak leaves and acorns framing game scenes of dogs, birds, and foxes; a fox carrying pheasant is returning to two kits in den with deep wooded background on left side. Right side depicts two setters and three pheasant, setter in foreground retrieves a fallen pheasant while setter in background watches another pheasant fall, as a third pheasant flushes. Two doves, one perched another flying, are on bottom of action. A pheasant perched on a branch is on trigger guard bow. Engraving is unsigned. Nicely streaked and lightly fiddle figured red-toned European walnut round knob long tang buttstock measures 14-1/4" over hard rubber Browning buttplate. Point pattern checkering with line borders is at grip. One piece field forend matches well. Bore diameter: top -.613, bottom -.614. Bore restrictions: top -.023 (full), bottom -.014 (mod). Drop at heel: 2-3/16", drop at comb: 1-1/2". Weight: 6 lbs 6 oz. LOP: 14-1/4". Factory records indicate this left the factory as a "Grade 1". PROVENANCE: Rod Fuller Estate Collection. CONDITION: Exceptionally fine, retaining nearly all of what appears to be orig finishes on wood and metal, with only a few light handling marks. Gold plate on trigger is excellent.
