W.H. REED SIDE LEVER 8 GAUGE HAMMER GUN.W.H. REEDSIDE LEVER HAMMER GUN1218 GA8 ga. 30-3/4" laminated steel bbls. Full length laminated steel rib with brass front bead marked "W.H. Reed 510 Girard Ave.". Straight grip stock checkered in 2-pt pattern with 14-1/4" LOP over full steel buttplate with gold shield in top of grip marked "GEO. T. Rillings 1878". Splinter forearm with unnumbered wedge checkered in 2-pt pattern with Schnabel tip. Left side of receiver with thumb push opener. Lockplate is nicely scroll engraved as are hammers. Gold line on action running around breech. Trigger guard bow is nicely game scene engraved with setter and quail surrounded by small scallops and tang is nicely scroll engraved. WEIGHT: 11 lbs. 10 oz. CONDITION: Good. Bbls retain 40-50% light laminated pattern with some staining. Frame has toned gray. Trigger guard retains most of what is likely an older restored high polished blued finish that has nicely toned and aged, engraving is still quite sharp. Buttstock and forearm retain most of an older professionally restored finish with checkering re-cut. Steel buttplate retains most of an older professionally restored finished likely having been done at the same time as the trigger guard. Bores are good with scattered pitting throughout. Mechanics are fine, though the gun is a bit loose in the hinge. A neat "weird" early hammer gun. 49253-18 JSL276 (2,000-4,000)
