FN BROWNING .458 MAG. OLYMPIAN GRADE HIGH POWER LONG EXTRACTOR BIG GAME RIFLE ENGRAVED BY A. MARECHAL AND LOUIS ACAMPO. BROWNING OLYMPIAN 7P44224 .458 MAG MODERN Cal. .458 MAG 24" Medium weight round bbl fitted with late flip-up rear sight is marked with Browning Arms Co on left, and with caliber, SN and "MADE IN BELGIUM" on right side. There are 2" triangles of scrolled acanthus engraving at sides of breech end. Coin finished Mauser action with long extractor has gold-plated trigger. Action is engraved with well cut, shaded, acanthus scroll, as background to game scenes appropriate to caliber; a trumpeting elephant is on left side of receiver ring, and a trotting rhino is on right. Floorplate depicts a cape buffalo running through clearing with tree in background, and a portrait of a lion is on trigger guard bow. Elephant and rhino scenes are signed by A. Marechal, cape buffalo scene is signed "L. Acampo" whose initials "LA" are also at bottom of lion portrait. Lightly figured claro walnut rosewood capped pistol grip stock is fitted with Browning open-sided white line pad. Stock features Monte Carlo comb with swept right hand cheekpiece, two recoil bolts, and rosewood forend tip with white line spacer. Matching flared grip cap has inset gold diamond on bottom. Closely spaced checkering at grip and forend is flanked by relief carved scrolling acanthus with stipple shaded background. Sling studs are in forend and on toe line. Weight: 8 lbs. 4 oz. LOP: 13-5/8". PROVENANCE: Rod Fuller Estate Collection. CONDITION: Excellent, near new, possibly unfired since proof. Sight elevation screw shows use. There are light operating marks on bolt. There are a few light handling marks on stock. Checkering and carving still light in color, slightly darkened on high points. A small area of finish has lifted near left rear of action tang, and there is also some lifting on right near trigger guard bow. Gold has light scratches. Mechanically crisp. There is no salt damage on metal and wood tests negative. 49114-59 MGM94 (7,500-12,500)
