This fine little gun, offered by VL&D, and Abercrombie & Fitch before WWII, has 26" demi-bloc bbls fitted with full length matted rib. Top right of rib is engraved "VON LENGERKE & DETMOLD, INC", and "NEW YORK" on left. Breech area is nicely rose and scroll engraved. Breech end of bottom bbl is marked "GERMANY" and "410 - 2-1/2". Very small, blued, scallop-backed, boxlock action features automatic safety (SAFE inlaid in gold), double Kersten top fastener, reinforcing bolsters, and double triggers (front articulated). Action is engraved with 90% coverage varying sized simple scroll with floral bouquets and other highlights. This engraving surrounds well rendered game scenes with a group of four pheasant feeding in field on left, and four pigeons mucking about on right. "Greifelt & Co Suhl" is engraved under each scene. Reinforcing bolsters are deeply relief carved with exceptionally well cut oak leaves and acorns. Well marbled and nicely burl figured European walnut round knob pistol grip buttstock measures 14-1/2" over 5/8" thick checkered horn buttplate. Point pattern checkering with line borders is at grip. Small 3-pc ejector forend has Anson type release. Bore diameter at muzzles: top -.386, bottom -.383. Wall thickness: top -.032, bottom -.038. Drop at heel: 2-5/8", drop at comb: 1-1/2". Weight: 4 lbs 7 oz. LOP: 14-1/2". High quality leather case with stitched leather corners is lined in burgundy cloth, and has gold embossed black leather A & F label in lid. Case contains a pair of snap caps, and an A&F marked square oil bottle. PROVENANCE: Booklet with factory letter with specifications of this particular gun, and historical information regarding Greifelts in general, including copies of ledger pages. CONDITION: Very fine, as refinished. Bbls retain over 95% of a re-black over some scattered light pitting and marks, engraving slightly washed. Action has also been re-blued, and retains nearly all of that blue, engraving still clear. Trigger guard and top lever are slightly silvered. Stocks retain nearly all of a hand rubbed oil finish, checkering re-cut. Bores are excellent. Action is tight. Ejectors are strong and in time. There are three old stress cracks behind action running into side panels, which appear to be stable. Case leather is darkening, with a number of scuffs, rubs, and marks. Interior relined and cloth is excellent with some light rubs. New label is excellent, as are accessories. A delightful lightweight gun. 49630-1 MGM410 (7,000-10,000)
