VERY FINE BOXLOCK DOUBLE RIFLE BY O. GEYGER BERLIN. O. GEYGER BERLIN BOXLOCK DOUBLE RIFLE 3066 8 x 57 JR CAL. MODERN Cal. 8 x 57 JR. (.317 Groove diameter) 23" Dovetailed bbls are fitted with matted, full length rib, front portion rises to form ramp for silver bead front sight with flip-up night bead. Rear portion of rib is fitted with claw mount bases and single standing U-notch rear sight. Tops of bbls are engraved "O. Geyger & Co Berlin" and "Agents". Side of left bbl is marked with caliber. Mid point of left bbl is engraved "Charles Daley" (sic). Bbl flats are stamped with pre 1912 nitro proofs for 8mm. Bottoms of bbls are stamped "KRUPP" and each bbl is also engraved "LINDER" inside a rectangle. SN is on splinter. Sling loop is screwed to bottom rib. (It appears that the "Linder" "Daley" "Agents" and the caliber markings were applied at a much later date.) Case hardened, scallop-backed boxlock action is fitted with Greener type side safety (S gold inlaid). Action also features pin type cocking indicators, side clips, crossbolt third fastener, and double triggers (both set). Nicely filed large beads surround fences and terminate at tops in exceptionally well cut sprays of acanthus in deep relief. Remainder of the action has about 50% coverage of relief carved blossoms and foliage with light fine scroll as counterpoint. Quality of this work is far better than normal. Trigger guard is of horn. Stump figured and lightly streaked European walnut round knob pistol grip buttstock measures 13-7/8" over ribbed horn buttplate, and features classic right hand shadow line cheekpiece, and point pattern checkering with line borders at grip. There is a hinged steel cartridge trap on toe line with spaces for three cartridges, engraved to match action. Long slim splinter forend has inset schnabeled horn tip and Deeley release. Drop at heel: approx 2-11/16", drop at comb: approx 1-5/8". Weight: 7 lbs 9 oz. LOP: 13-7/8". CONDITION: Very fine. Bbls retain most of what appears to be their orig blue, with some areas cleaned over light pitting, with bluing touched up. Action retains approx 50 - 60% orig case hardening color. Stocks retain most of their orig oil finish with numerous light and heavy handling marks and scratches. Grip checkering is lightly worn, forend checkering more so. Forend is also missing two 1/2" chips of wood along bbl channel on left side. Horn of trigger guard has some scratches, and there is a crack at front portion of bow. Bores are excellent, shiny with strong rifling throughout. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Triggers will not set (probably need adjustment). This fine little rifle has been in storage for a little while and undoubtedly needs a good cleaning. 49029-14 MGM13 (4,500-7,500)
