PROVENANCE: Transcription of a letter from Holland & Holland dated Mar 3, 1999 with particulars of gun, and a copy of the record book showing that the rifle was made for a Mr. Lethbridge. Prior owners notes. CONDITION: Excellent, as completely refinished. Bbls retain nearly all of a fine satin re-black. Action retains nearly all of a re-color hardening which is somewhat dark. Hammers, underlever, trigger guard and grip cap have been re-blued, and retain nearly all of that blue. Stocks retain nearly all of a hand rubbed oil finish over some light marks, and with a few subsequent marks. Checkering is re-cut. There are one or two small chips in front of forend iron. Bores are very fine with strong rifling throughout, with some scattered light pitting. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Locks are crisp. Case leather is fine with some marks and rubs. Straps and handle are good. Interior is excellent. Accessories are very fine. Brass is somewhat tarnished. Letter of provenance relates that after its last trip to Africa, at which time it took two cape buffalo, this rifle was returned to Holland & Holland to be redone. It has not been taken on a hunt since that time. 49183-2 MGM135 (10,000-15,000)
