FINE JOHN RIGBY MAUSER RIFLE "THE FIRST 7MM REMINGTON MAGNUM MADE BY RIGBY''S" WITH SCOPE AND CASE. JOHN RIGBY MAUSER 6226 7MM MODERN (ca 1972) Cal. 7mm. 23" Medium weight round bbl is fitted with island base for three leaf express rear sight, sling eye, and ramp front base. Bbl is engraved in Old English script "First 7mm Remington Magnum Cal. Rifle" "Built By" "John Rigby & Co 13 Pall Mall London. S.W.1". Rear portion is fitted with claw base in banded-on boss. FN 98 large ring Mauser action is engraved with large open shaded scroll. Top of receiver ring is engraved "Calibre 7mm" "Remington" "Magnum" "175 Gr Bullet". Rear claw base is on bridge. Standard steel bottom metal has had trigger guard bow nicely thinned and shaped, and has typical FN removable floorplate with push button release. Floorplate and front part of bottom metal are scroll engraved to match action. This engraving surrounds nicely detailed, relief gold inlaid, face-on portrait of waterbuck with engravers signature at bottom right. Rigby SN is on trigger guard bow. Finely marbled, dark, red-toned, European walnut capped pistol grip Monte Carlo stock measures 14-3/8" over open sided black White Line pad. Stock features large swept right hand cheekpiece, scroll engraved recoil bolt, and point pattern checkering with mullered borders at grip and forend. Steel grip cap with trap is also scroll engraved, and initials "PR" are gold inlaid on cover. Zeiss Diatal - D 6x42 rail scope with three post and crosshair reticle is in claw mounts, rear with windage. Drop at heel: approx 3", drop at rear of Monte Carlo: approx 1-7/8", drop at comb: approx 1-5/8". Weight with scope: 9 lbs 3 oz. LOP: 14-3/8". Nice quality leather case with brass corners is lined in burgundy cloth and has Rigby paper label with King Street address along with instruction label in lid. Case contains exterior straps, leather sling with hook type swivels, scope bag, and a tin of Motty rifle paste. PROVENANCE: Richard Schreiber Collection. CONDITION: Excellent. Metal parts retain approx 95% orig blue, with slight silvering on bottom metal. Stocks retain nearly all of their orig oil finish with a number of scratches and light dings, mostly on right side of butt and in action area. Checkering lightly worn. Bore is excellent. Action smooth. Scope has some scuffs and marks in its lacquer finish. Optics clear. Case leather is excellent with some scuffs. Interior cloth is very fine.
