20 GAUGE PURDEY SIDELOCK EJECTOR GAME GUN HAVING RELIEF GOLD INLAID FENCES WITH CASE.PURDEYSXS SIDELOCK2433420 GAMODERNCal. 20 GA 2-3/4" Chambers. ca 1932. 28" Chopper lump bbls are engraved with Purdey Audley House name and address and Whitworth steel information on slightly raised, narrow, game rib. Rear portion is engraved "2", which is also engraved on top lever and interior of forend iron. Bbl flats are stamped with London nitro proofs for 2-1/2" chambers. Bottoms of bbls are stamped with SNs and "CHOKE". Bbl makers initials "SS" (Sam Simons) are on bottom of left bbl. Tube nos 59369 and 59370 are on loop. Splinter is engraved "Made in England". Small Beesley patent self-opening sidelock action features automatic safety (SAFE inlaid in gold), bushed strikers, raised rib tumbler end cocking indicators, and dbl triggers. Action is engraved with typical Purdey house rose and scroll, with "J. Purdey & Sons" flush inlaid in gold on each lockplate, and on bottom of action where it is over "London". Fences are relief carved and gold inlaid with large blossoms and trailing vines. Scroll engraved top lever and trigger guard are blued. SN is gold inlaid on tang. Exhibition quality, strikingly marbled and boldly flame figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14-3/8" over thin black Decelerator pad. Stock features drop points and point pattern checkering with mullered borders at grip. Matching splinter ejector forend has Anson release and iron is stamped with actioners initials "A.F" (Alf Fullalove). Bore diameter: left -.617, right -.617. Bore restrictions: left -.024 (full), right -.005 (IC). Wall thickness: left -.029, right -.028. Drop at heel: 2-9/16", drop at comb: 1-3/4". Weight: 5 lbs 14 oz. LOP: 14-3/8". High quality oak and pigskin leather case has brass corners and gold cloth outer cover. Interior is lined in royal blue suede, and has gold embossed black leather Purdey label in lid along with charge card. Case is semi french fitted for gun and accessories, which include Purdey marked round oil bottle, striker bottle and vaseline jar. Unmarked accessories include rosewood handled chamber brush, turnscrew, and dusting brush, along with a pair of Purdey marked snap caps. Covered compartment holds pull through bore cleaner and the key. Bbl channel contains brass and rosewood 2-pc cleaning rod with mop, brush and jag in leather wallet. Also included is a 1929 edition of booklet "Purdey Guns". PROVENANCE: Larry Baer Estate Collection. CONDITION: Excellent, as refurbished. Bbls retain nearly all of a satin rust blue. Action retains nearly all of a color re-hardening, engraving slightly softened. Gold inlay appears new. Well done, but not quite factory quality replacement buttstock, retains essentially all of its hand rubbed oil finish. Forend wood appears original, and retains essentially all of a refinish, checkering lightly worn, with some repairs at left tip. Bores are excellent. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Ejectors are strong and in time. Case is excellent. Accessories are excellent. 49427-5 MGM283 (20,000-30,000)
