VERY FINE 28 GAUGE CHURCHILL "REGAL" BOXLOCK EJECTOR GAME GUN WITH CASE.CHURCHILLSXS REGAL897528 GAMODERNCal. 28 GA 2-3/4" Chambers. (Finished in 1968) 26" Dovetailed bbls fitted with Churchill rib, are engraved "Churchill (Gunmakers) Ltd." and "7, Bury Street. St. James''s London, England." on tops. Bbl flats are stamped with 1968 Birmingham nitro proofs for 2-3/4" chambers. SNs are engraved on bottoms of bbls, and loop is stamped "Made in England". Small sized, scallop-backed, case hardened, boxlock action features automatic safety (SAFE inlaid in gold), and double triggers. Action is engraved with approx 70% coverage well cut, varying sized scroll with rose bouquet highlights. "Churchill" is in scroll terminated riband on each side. Blued floorplate is also scroll engraved, surrounding "THE REGAL". Scroll engraved top lever and trigger guard are also blued. SN is at grip. Nicely streaked and lightly figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 13-3/4" over Silver type pad, and features typical drop points and checkering at grip, and a gold oval on toe line engraved "R.S". Matching splinter ejector forend has Anson release. Bore diameter: left -.547, right -.548. Bore restrictions: left -.021 (Full), right -.017 (mod). Wall thickness: left -.030, right -.038. Drop at heel: 2-7/16", drop at comb: 1-1/2". Weight: 5 lbs 8 oz. LOP: 13-3/4". Makers leather VC case with stitched leather corners is embossed "R.S." in gold on top. Case is lined in burgundy cloth and has gold embossed black leather Churchill label in lid. Case contains 2-pc brass and walnut cleaning rod with mop, brush, and jag, ebony handled turnscrew, pair of snap caps, and a Churchill marked round oil bottle. PROVENANCE: Voluminous information and correspondence between Mr. Schrieber and factory regarding production, delivery, and import of this gun, along with invoice with export price of 250 pounds for the gun and extra for the pad, initials, and case. Richard Schrieber Collection. CONDITION: Excellent, with evidence of light field use. Bbls retain nearly all of their orig finish with some sharp edge wear and light marks. Sharp edges at bottom of action are beginning to silver, as is thumbpiece. Trigger guard is considerably silvered at grip. There are some light handling marks in orig rubbed oil finish of wood. Bores are excellent. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Ejectors are strong and in time. Case leather has some marks and rubs, but is generally excellent. Handle is missing. Interior cloth is excellent, with some compressions and marks. Accessories are excellent. A very fine small bore gun. 49311-5 MGM275 (4,000-6,000)
