Bbl flats are stamped with Birmingham black powder proofs and SN. Makers (probably W & C Scott) number is on splinter. Case hardened Jones underlever action is fitted with bar action rebounding locks with serpentine round bodied hammers. Action and locks are engraved with 60% coverage medium scroll. "MORTIMER & SON" is in scrolled riband on each lockplate. Broadly streaked, dark European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14-1/2" over orig ribbed horn buttplate. Flat top point pattern checkering with mullered borders is at grip. A silver oval on toe line is engraved with monogram "ACH" matching initials on case lid. Matching splinter forend with small inset horn tip has Deeley & Edge marked release. Bore diameter: left -.710, right -.707. Bore restrictions: left -.021 (mod), right -.000 (cyl). Case contains 2-pc cleaning rod (with one piece ebony, and the other of rosewood, that mate correctly), Turks head, bench cloth, and external straps. CONDITION: Excellent. Bbls retain what appear to be a re-brown, but may be orig brown. Pattern has good definition, but surfaces are somewhat grainy. Action and locks retain most of their orig case hardening color, possibly as much as 85%. Stocks retain nearly all of their orig hand rubbed oil finish with a number of light marks and scratches, with some oil rubbed in over the years as maintenance. Checkering shows light wear. Bores are very fine, with some scattered light pits. Action has just a hint of looseness with forend removed, and is tight with forend installed. Bbls are on face. Locks are crisp. Canvas of case has faded to olive green, and has a number of light marks and scratches. Leather trim is generally good, but with a few splits. Straps and handle are fair. Interior cloth is fine, with some light insect damage and rubs. Label is very fine, with some light foxing. Accessories are good. A high condition, solid, hammer gun. 49005-2 MGM7 (4,000-7,000)
