SCARCE, AS FOUND, 20 GAUGE L. C. SMITH EAGLE GRADE EJECTOR GUN WITH SINGLE TRIGGER.L. C. SMITHSXS13919020 GAMODERNCal. 20 GA 2-3/4” Chambers. 28” Bbls fitted with concave, matted rib are marked “L. C. SMITH Eagle GRADE” and “HUNTER ARMS CO INC M’F’R’S FULTON, N.Y., U.S.A.” on tops. There are sprays of scroll engraving at breech ends. Bbl flats are stamped with SN and grade, along with “CHAMBERS 2 ¾ INCHES” and Hunter proofs. Typical featherweight case hardened action is fitted with non-automatic safety and Hunter “ONE TRIGGER”. Action and lockplates are engraved in “Eagle” grade style with sprays of large scroll interspersed with beaded shading, surrounding unique to Eagle grade, semi-relief vignettes of flying game birds on lockplates; a pheasant on left, and a duck on right. “L. C. SMITH” is in Old English script at the front of each lockplate. A relief engraved perched eagle is on top lever pivot. Nicely stump figured American walnut capped pistol grip buttstock measures 13-7/8” over ribbed composition buttplate. Point pattern checkering with beaded borders wraps over top of grip. Matching splinter ejector forend has inset ebony tip, and typical J-spring release with knurled button secondary in oval escutcheon. Bore diameter: left -.618, right -.619. Bore restrictions: left -.033 (full), right -.007 (IC). Wall thickness: left -.032, right -.033. Drop at heel: 2-1/2", drop at comb: 1-1/2". Weight: 6 lbs 4 oz. LOP: 13-7/8". PROVENANCE: Cody Firearms Museum letter confirming specifications and stating that it was started on July 23, 1934, and shipped August 28, 1934 to Hugh Gaston. CONDITION: Excellent. Bbls retain approx. 95% of what appears to be their orig blue, slightly thinned from normal handling, and with a few light marks. Action retains over 85% orig dark case colors, silvered on sharp edges and fences, thinned and with some dark spots on bottom. Lockplates retain essentially all of their orig case hardening color. Trigger guard retains nearly all of its orig blue, silvered on sharp edges. Stocks retain over 90% of their orig finish, thinned from normal hand wear, with numerous light marks and nicks, checkering slightly worn and dirty. Bores are excellent. Action is tight. Ejectors are in time. Trigger works. A very fine example of this hard to find small bore L. C. Smith, with only 111 produced in this gauge. 49402-3 MGM214 (15,000-25,000)
