L. C. SMITH SPECIALTY GRADE WITH VENTILATED RIB AND SINGLE TRIGGER.L. C. SMITHSXSRE4598012 GAMODERN; IVORYCal. 12 GA 30” Bbls fitted with raised, ventilated rib are marked “L. C. SMITH Specialty GRADE” and “HUNTER ARMS CO INC M’F’R’S FULTON, N.Y., U.S.A.” on tops. There are sprays of scroll engraving at breech ends. Bbl flats are stamped with SN and grade. Typical standard weight case hardened action is fitted with non-automatic safety and Hunter “ONE TRIGGER”. Action and lockplates are engraved in “Specialty” style with spray of large shaded scroll surrounding game birds on lockplates; a pair of quail in grass on left, and a duck flying over marsh on right. “L. C. SMITH” is in Old English script at the front of each lockplate. Dense, crotch figured American walnut capped pistol grip buttstock measures 13-1/2” over brown Old English pad. Point pattern checkering with line borders wraps over top of grip. Matching splinter ejector forend has inset ebony tip, and typical J-spring release with knurled button secondary in guitar shaped escutcheon. Bore diameter: left -.726, right -.724. Bore restrictions: left -.029 (IMod), right -.026 (IMod). Wall thickness: left -.028, right -.030. Drop at heel: 2-1/2", drop at comb: 1-9/16". Weight: 7 lbs 12 oz. LOP: 13-1/2". CONDITION: Fine, as partially refinished. Bbls retain most of their orig blue with numerous light marks, thinning overall. Action and lockplates retain a considerable amount, probably well over half, of their orig case hardening color, actually percentage difficult to establish due to relatively heavy added lacquer, which has yellowed. Stocks retain most of an old oil refinish over some deep marks, with a few subsequent light marks, checkering re-cut. Bores are excellent, with a small dent 12” from breech end of right bbl, and some very light frosting. Action is tight. Ejectors are in time. Trigger works. Almost 5000 Specialty grade 12 bores were made, but few with ventilated ribs. "Certifiable pre-ban ivory" bead sight. 49417-11 MGM211 (4,000-6,000)
