This unusual gun, unmarked on bbls or water table for grade, is stamped with SN and "D" under grip cap. It has 26" Krupp steel bbls with concave, matted rib engraved "KRUPP" and "FLUID - STEEL" on tops. Bottoms of bbls are stamped with steel information, and bottom of left bbl with SN. Trigger plate, crossbolt boxlock type, arched back action is stamped with SN on water table. It features knurled roll tang safety and single selective trigger with selector pin through stock. Action is engraved with 30% coverage nicely cut scroll. Lefever''s typical realistic dogs are on sides of action; a pointer on left, and pointing setter on right, both over "D. M. Lefever Sons & Co". Trigger plate is engraved "Not Connected With Lefever Arms Co." Trigger guard has portrait of a spaniel retrieving a mallard on bow, and SN on tang. Marbled and stump figured European walnut hard rubber capped pistol grip buttstock measures 13-3/4" over checkered wood butt with hard rubber heel and toe plates. Side panels are checkered and point pattern checkering with line borders is at grip. A vacant silver oval is on toe line. Matching splinter forend has inset horn tip and knurled release in large steel escutcheon. Bore diameter: left -.735, right -.736. Bore restrictions: left -.012 (Lt mod), right -.005 (IC). Bbls retain approx 85% orig blue with a number of light marks, some spotting, thinning from normal hand wear toward breech ends. Action retains 40 - 50% orig case hardening color, strong where protected, thinning and silvering from normal use. Stocks retain a considerable amount of what appears to be their orig oil finish with numerous light and heavy marks and scratches. Sharp edges, drop points, and checkering worn from hand wear. Stock shows a number of repairs through head, checkering re-cut on left side panel, some chipping at junction with action on right, with other repairs near trigger selector. Forend tip has been re-glued. Bores are excellent, with some light frosting. A small dent in left bbl is just in front of forend tip. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Top lever spring is broken or missing. Ejectors are in time. Trigger works. A fine example of this scarce gun. Bob Elliott and Jim Cobb state in LEFEVER - GUNS OF LASTING FAME, "We can only surmise that the 7D grade is the more scarce among the already extremely rare boxlock crossbolt guns." "Certifiable pre-ban ivory" front bead. 49224-8 MGM61 (2,500-4,500)
