FINE 10 GAUGE PARKER AH MADE FOR NEW YORK EXPOSITION OF 1897.PARKERSXS AH8318310 Ga(1897) Cal. 10 ga. 2-7/8" Chambers. No frame marking visible, but is heavy enough to be a "3". 32" Extremely fine Damascus bbls have matted, concave rib engraved with Parker''s Meriden CT address and "DAMASCUS STEEL". Bbl flats are stamped with grade, steel type, and patent date. Left side of lump is stamped with SN. Typical Parker action is filed in "A" grade style with single bead around fences. All correct markings are on water table. Action features automatic safety and nickel-plated dbl triggers. Action is engraved with near full coverage fine scroll surrounding small, well detailed vignettes of dogs and game in a style seen on other exhibition and specially made guns, most notably those ordered by Charles E. Parker. A pair of pointers are on left rear, with a pair of pheasant at left front, with a rail or heron engraved on fence. A pair of setters is on right side, with guinea hens (?) at front, with a flying bird on fence. A flock of ducks fly across front portion of bottom of action, and a herd of elk (?), one bull and three cows, run across trigger plate. Another elk is on trigger guard bow. SN is at grip. Well streaked, and nicely figured European walnut capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14-1/8" over skeleton steel buttplate. Stock is embellished in typical "A" grade style with inset checkered side panels, with fleur-di-lis drop points. Checkering has shaped border with fleur-di-lis intrusions toward butt, and wraps over top of grip. Composition grip cap has large scroll engraved gold oval inlet at bottom. Matching splinter forend has nicely filed steel tip, and typical Parker release with patent date engraved. Bore diameter: left -.778, right -.780. Bore restrictions: left -.032 (full), right -.022 (mod). Wall thickness: left -.047, right -.045. Drop at heel: 3-1/8", drop at comb: 1-7/8". Weight: 9 lbs 8 oz. LOP: 14-1/8". PROVENANCE: Parker Gun Collectors letter indicating that this gun was shipped Mar 11, 1897 to the NY Exposition, and confirms specifications. CONDITION: Excellent, as found. Bbls retain 85 to 90% orig Damascus pattern with some streaky staining (which may clean). Action retains 60 - 70% strong orig case hardening color, with some brown staining (which also might clean). Trigger guard retains 60-70% of its strong orig blue. Stocks retain most of their orig gloss finish, areas darkened where worn through, and oil soaked, with a considerable number of light marks and scratches. Bores are very fine with very light minute frosting. Action is tight. It is estimated that only eight 10 bore grade 6 guns were made with 32" bbls. 49402-2 MGM302 (22,500-32,500)
