REMINGTON 1894 SPECIAL ORDER DEO GRADE WITH CASE AND ORIGINAL HANG TAG.REMINGTONSXS 1894 DEO13512712 GaMODERN(1907) Cal. 12 ga. 32" Bbls fitted with matted, concave game rib are engraved "REMINGTON Arms Co" "Ilion, N.Y. U.S.A." "ORDNANCE" on tops. There are 1" triangles of scroll at breech ends, and unusual 3/4" triangles of matching scroll at muzzles. (Scroll engraved bbls are quite scarce even on "E" grade Remingtons, undoubtedly specially ordered on this "D".) Bbl flats are stamped with SN and grade. Bottoms of bbls are stamped with "O" "E" "Y". Pellet count no. "324" and "320" are on rear lump. Case hardened, boxlock action features automatic safety, pivoting third fastener, and dbl triggers. Water table is stamped with SN, grade, and patent info, along with "F". Action is engraved in usual "D" style with approx 60% coverage exceptionally well cut scroll within geometric borders surrounding exceptionally well rendered vignettes of dogs and game; a pair of pointing pointers are on left side of action, with a pointing setter and another crouched on right. "REMINGTON Arms Co" is in scrolled riband at rear on each side of action. Scroll engraved trigger plate depicts central vignette of flying ruffed grouse. Engraving on this "D" grade is much more extensive than that found on most guns of this grade, approaching the coverage found on "E" grade Remingtons. Blued top lever and trigger guard are also scroll engraved. SN is at grip. Nicely fiddle figured and lightly streaked European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 15" over leather covered pad with widows peak. Side panels are checkered and have carved arrowhead drop points. Point pattern checkering is at grip. A silver oval engraved "FPL" is on toe line. Matching splinter ejector forend with Anson type release has checkering with ribbons through pattern and fancy borders. Bore diameter: left -.728, right -.727. Bore restrictions: left -.036 (full), right -.031 (full). Wall thickness: left -.036, right -.032. Drop at heel: 2-3/8", drop at comb: 1-11/16". Weight: 8 lbs 0 oz. LOP: 15". Exceptional high quality oak and leather cases by Huey (no. 1014) has stitched leather corners and central brass oval medallion. It comes with dark blue canvas outer cover with tan leather trim, Central leather shield embossed "FPL". Interior is lined in royal blue suede with paper Remington label in lid. Case is semi french fitted for action, bbls and forend, and is french fitted for turnscrew, dusting brush and chamber brush. Other accessories include 2-pc brass cleaning rod, Remington marked snap caps, round oil bottle, broken case extractor and another pair of snap caps in a green box. Also included is the orig orange colored hang tag for this gun, with all pertinent info including targeting. PROVENANCE: Double Gun Journal Autumn 1997 with article on this gun entitled "A Presentation Remington DEO Trap Gun" by Charles Semmer outlining known history of this gun, and its orig purchaser. Gun is pictured and described. Article is inscribed and signed by Charles Semmer. Hang tag. The Estate of B. E. "Andy" Anderson. CONDITION: Excellent, as partially refinished. Bbls retain essentially all of a fine satin rust blue. Action retains approx 70 - 80% of its orig case hardening color, strong where protected, silvered on fences, edges, and bottom from normal hand wear. Stocks retain nearly all of a hand rubbed oil finish with numerous subsequent marks, checkering re-cut. Bores are excellent, polished over with some light frosting. Action is tight. Ejectors are in time. Case and accessories are excellent, with only light compressions on interior. Hang tag is excellent with minor chipping and creasing.
