FRED ADOLPH MARKED TAKEDOWN MAUSER CARBINE WITH SCOPE. FRED ADOLPH MAUSER CARBINE 37350 30-06 CAL MODERN (on left side of receiver ring below wood) Cal. 30-06. 20-1/2" Slim, tapered, lightweight, round bbl is gold inlaid on top "Fred Adolph, Genoa N.Y." One standing, one folding leaf rear sight is dovetailed through an integral island rear base. Matted front ramp holds longitudinally dovetailed silver bead. Top of bbl behind rear sight is engraved "BOHLER" "Germany" "Antinit-Steel". 1-1/2" Triangle of germanic acanthus is on bbl reinforce, and pre WWI German proofs are on left side. Bottom of bbl is stamped with SN, steel information, and metric designation for caliber. Case hardened large ring Mauser action has been fitted with claw bases. Bolt handle has been forged to butter knife type, and is checkered. Bottom metal has had lever type floorplate release fitted, along with double set triggers. A neat takedown feature has been added, comprised of a locking lever in removable portion of forend, engaging heavy stud on front of bottom metal, which locks bbl in place after being screwed into battery. Action and bottom metal are nearly fully engraved with scrolling germanic acanthus with beaded background. Floorplate has fine portrait of elk walking through meadow. Trigger guard bow is gold inlaid with monogram "SRW" (?). This engraving style and quality of workmanship are found on many guns and rifles by Fred Adolph, and it has been surmised that he did his own engraving. A spurious signature of "R. J. Kornbrath" is on inside of bbl takedown iron under bbl shank. A flip-up peep sight with elevation adjustment has been fitted into a housing behind action tang. Relatively plain European walnut stock measures 14-1/4" over collapsed "Perkins Shock Absorber" solid pad. Stock features high comb with faceted termination, shadow line right hand cheekpiece, and well cut point pattern checkering with broad mullered borders at grip which is fitted with engraved steel cap. A sling loop is on toe line. Two part fore stock with horn separation extends to muzzle with schnabeled horn cap. It attaches to bbl with one side nail through oval steel escutcheons and a sling bail. Checkering matching grip is on fore piece. Drop at heel: approx 2-15/16", drop at comb: approx 1-3/4". Weight without scope: 7 lbs 0 oz. LOP: 14-1/4". Dr. Walter Gerard (?) scope with crosshair and post reticle is in soldered-on claw rings, rear ring with windage adjustment. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl retains most of what appears to be its orig blue with some heat discoloration in area of Adolph signature, from reattachment of fore piece mounting block. Action and floorplate retain over 80% of their orig case hardening color. Bolt retains much of its color, but is silvered from operation and handle has browned. Stocks retain most of what appears to be their orig rubbed oil finish, checkering slightly worn. Bore is excellent. Action is smooth. Set trigger works. Scope tube retains nearly all of its re-blue after mounting rings, lettering considerably washed. Optics are relatively clear. 49029-12 MGM15 (10,000-15,000)
