CLASSIC GRIFFIN & HOWE DANGEROUS GAME RIFLE.GRIFFIN & HOWEBOLT2203416 RIGBYMODERN(ca 1949) Cal. .416 Rigby. This experienced post war dangerous game rifle has 24" round heavyweight bbl fitted with banded-on sling eye, and front sight ramp which holds gold bead. Top of bbl is engraved "No 2203 Griffin & Howe Inc. New York". Caliber is at left rear. U S Model 1917 type action has had sight ears milled off of bridge, which has been well shaped lightly engraved and nicely stippled, matching receiver ring. Model 57 Lyman receiver sight has been fitted. Top has been drilled and tapped for scope mounts. Bolt knob has been knurled. Action cocks partially on opening, and closing. Bolt body, right runway, and follower have been engine turned. Bottom metal has been converted to flush type. Trigger guard bow thinned, and front portion of floorplate checkered. Classic post war style fiddle figured and nicely streaked European walnut steel capped pistol grip stock measures 13-1/2" over Silver type pad, and features shadow line right hand cheekpiece, large horn forend tip, engraved recoil bolt, wide ejection port chamfer, and classic point pattern checkering with mullered borders at grip and forend. Drop at heel: approx 2-5/16", drop at comb: approx 1-3/4". Weight: 9 lbs 6 oz. LOP: 13-1/2". CONDITION: Excellent. Metal parts retain 80 - 85% of what appears to be orig blue, with numerous marks and thinning on high edges and front portion of bbl from normal carrying wear. Stock retains most of what appears to be its orig hand rubbed oil finish with numerous light marks and some deeper dents, thinned at normal wear positions. Checkering lightly worn. Bore is very fine, lightly frosted throughout. Lyman 57 sight is slightly loose, and does not fit mortise well. Action is smooth.
