WEATHERBY BOLT MARK V, ONCE BELONGING TO WILLIAM HOLDEN, FAMOUS ACTOR AND BIG GAME HUNTER.WEATHERBYBOLT MARK V26235460 MAG WEATHERBYMODERNCal. .460 Mag Weatherby. Mark V. 26" Heavy weight round bbl with integral ported muzzle brake, is mounted with one standing leaf express sight and island base. Streamlined front ramp holds gold bead. Caliber is marked at left rear. Mark V action has right rear receiver ring cutaway to allow passage of long bullets. Typical bottom metal with hinged floorplate is engraved "WEATHERBY CUSTOM" on scroll surrounded riband on floorplate. Weatherby styled stock of California mesquite has rosewood tip and grip cap with black and white spacers. Skip line point pattern checkering is at grip and forend. Stock features high Monte Carlo comb with swept right hand cheekpiece and open sided White Line pad. Drop at heel: approx 2-7/8", drop at rear of Monte Carlo: approx 2-1/8", drop at comb: approx 2-1/4". Weight: 10 lbs 1 oz. LOP: 13-7/8". PROVENANCE: The William Smith Collection. Letter from William Holden to Kerr''s consigning rifle for resale, and correspondence between purchaser and Mr. Holden regarding this rifle. William Holden explains "Although I am not a trophy hunter, I found it necessary to have a gun of that caliber for control shooting in Kenya." He goes on to say that he hunted "elephant, buffalo, zebra, rhino, lion, and others, that might endanger local villages." Weatherby authenticity letter, and some gmail photos of William Holden, Roy Weatherby, and others. Life magazine featuring William Holden dated 1954, and biographical information. CONDITION: Excellent. Metal parts retain over 95% of their orig blue with a few light nicks and scratches. Stock retains most of its orig finish with finish added on cheekpiece after adjustment, and light marks. There are a few factory plugs, most notably one on cheekpiece, and the other at left rear of action where pin knots have been eliminated. (Pin knots are a fairly common feature in mesquite.)
