FINE CUSTOM MAUSER RIFLE BY DALE W. GOENS. DALE W. GOENS BOLT ACTION 1142 .35 WHELEN MODERN Cal. .35 Whelen. 22" Lightweight round bbl is fitted with quarter rib and banded-on front ramp. Rib is engraved with caliber on front portion, and is mounted with one standing, two folding leaf express rear sight with gold lines. Juncture between rib and receiver ring is also gold. Front ramp holds silver bead. Top of bbl is engraved "Dale W. Goens " 1142 ". Standard length large ring Model 98 Mauser action is marked "DEUTSCHE WAFFEN - UND" "MUNITIONSFABRIKEN BERLIN" on side wall. A Timney trigger has been fitted. Blued bolt is fitted with commercial style pear-shaped handle, knob having two checkered panels. Bolt shroud is case hardened, and retains standard flag safety. Cocking piece, extractor, and bolt stop have very fine temper blue. Standard bottom metal with hinged floorplate and release in trigger guard bow, has been nicely thinned and shaped. Floorplate is engraved "5 Cartridges". Finely marbled and lightly figured French walnut steel capped pistol grip stock measures 13-5/8" over russet leather covered pad. Stock features classic Goens styling, with swept shadow line cheekpiece, and exceptionally well cut fleur-di-lis checkering with shaped borders and ribbons through pattern at grip and forend. Stock also features ebony forend tip and sling eyes. Exceptionally fine inletting is signed in bbl channel and behind inlet for recoil lug, Dale W. Goens, and with SN. Drop at heel: approx 2-5/16", drop at comb: approx 1-7/8". Weight: 8 lbs 0 oz. LOP: 13-5/8". CONDITION: Excellent, near new. Metal finishes have just a hint of high edge wear. Stock has a number of light marks and scratches associated with light field use. Bore is excellent. Action is smooth.
