RARE INSCRIBED DELUXE ENGRAVED MARLIN 2nd MODEL 1891 LEVER ACTION RIFLE.MARLIN18918989322Cal. 22. Beautiful deluxe 1891 with 24” oct bbl, full magazine, German silver Rocky Mountain front sight, V-notch rear sight and locking Lyman tang sight. Mounted with beautiful B-style checkered, tiger-striped American walnut with serpentine grip and crescent buttplate. Buttstock & buttplate are matching numbered to this rifle. Receiver is engraved by Conrad Ulrich in #5 pattern with full coverage foliate arabesque patterns on the sides. Left side has a large ribbon engraved with the initials “CHK”. Both sides have Mr. Ulrich’s typical border patterns. Matching engraving patterns extend over the top & bottom of receiver and top tang. Left side of receiver has had a screw installed through the center which secures the Model 1892 cartridge cutoff that apparently was added at a later date. Rifle also has the 1892 1-pc trigger. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter which identifies this rifle in Cal. 22 with 24” oct bbl and pistol grip stock shipped Oct 21, 1893. It appears that the owner of this rifle in the 1890’s returned it to the factory for the upgraded improvements. These little rifles are rarely found today with high orig finish. They usually were considered boys or ladies rifles and frequently saw hard service with little or no maintenance. CONDITION: Very good to fine. Bbl retains a thin blue/brown patina, having been cleaned a long time ago. Magazine tube retains a plummy/blue patina with cleaned areas and a spot of pitting. Receiver overall retains about 50% faded case colors with the balance turned silver. Lever & hammer retain faded case colors. Buttplate shows blue through a brown patina. Wood is sound with handling & use nicks & scratches and overall retains about 75% stock finish and about 40-50% dark finish on the forearm with checkering showing moderate to heavy wear. Hammer is not solid in safety notch, otherwise mechanics are fine. Strong worn bore. 49121-4 JR (8,000-12,000)
