RARE ENGRAVED SPECIAL ORDER MARLIN 1ST MODEL 1892 LEVER ACTION RIFLE.MARLIN189212405822IVORYCal. 22. Beautiful small bore Marlin with 24” oct bbl, full magazine, "certifiable antique ivory" bead combination front sight, fixed rear sight and Lyman combination tang sight. Mounted with very highly figured C-style checkered American walnut with serpentine grip buttstock and crescent buttplate. Stock is cast on for the left shoulder - likely by the factory. SN was observed on bottomd of receiver with matching number in top tang channel of buttstock. Inside toe buttplate is marked with the # 128058. Although this number is not matching, the buttplate fits perfectly and is lightly engraved. Receiver is beautifully engraved in #3 style by Conrad Ulrich with the rnd vignette of a squirrel sitting on a tree limb all surrounded by foliate arabesque patterns and latch-hook borders. Right side has full coverage matching foliate arabesque patterns with feather patterns on the bolt. Matching foliate arabesque patterns extend about 3” up the bbl on all 5 exposed flats. Receiver, lever and hammer are color case hardened with the takedown screw, forend cap, magazine cap and magazine dovetail along with all the screws gold plated. Top left side of receiver has had a tiny screw installed. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter which identifies this rifle in Cal. 22 with half oct 24” bbl and pistol grip stock, shipped March 24, 1896 with one repair, year not listed. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl retains about 95% strong orig blue showing wear over the chamber area. Magazine tube retains about 98% orig blue. Receiver retains about 75% faded orig case colors and the hammer about 60% case colors. Lever retains smoky case colors on the sides, being mostly turned silver. Forend cap shows about 80-85% bright gold-wash with thin gold in the magazine tube cap. Screws retain strong orig gold. Forearm has a repaired chip at the forend cap, otherwise wood is sound with light nicks and scratches showing moderate wear on the checkering and retains about 95-96% strong orig varnish. Buttplate is grey metal patina. Mechanics are fine. Bright shiny bore. 49121-9 JR (25,000-35,000)
