RARE DELUXE ENGRAVED MARLIN MODEL 1893 TAKEDOWN LEVER ACTION RIFLE.MARLIN189314917530-30IVORYCal. 30-30. Fine, deluxe engraved Marlin with 26" oct bbl, full magazine, takedown, windgauge "certifiable antique ivory" bead combination front sight, Lyman "6A" two leaf folding rear sight & a Lyman tang sight. Mounted with very nicely figured shell grain, C-style checkered American walnut with serpentine grip & crescent buttplate. Left side of upper tang is marked with matching SN which is also found inside toe of buttplate. Although buttstock is not marked, given the fit & finish there is no doubt that this wood is orig and has been installed the life of the rifle. Receiver is engraved by Conrad Ulrich in a modified #5 pattern which consists of the large oval vignette of a crouching tiger on a rocky promontory overlooking palm trees. Right side has the smaller vignette of an English Setter on point. Both sides of the receiver have full coverage, deep intertwined foliate & floral arabesque patterns with pearled background surrounded by Mr. Ulrich''s typical border patterns. Top of receiver also has full cover engraving in a variety of patterns. Matching engraving extends onto bbl boss with bottom of receiver engraved in a small pattern with a flower blossom. Forend cap & buttplate tang are engraved to match. Light arabesque patterns are engraved about 1-3/4" over the exposed top 5 flats of bbl. With the vignette of a tiger on the receiver, it can be speculated that this rifle may have been ordered by someone in India or for someone hunting in India. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl & magazine tube retain about 98% strong orig blue with a spot each on the bbl & magazine tube and various light wear over the chamber area. Receiver retains traces of case colors in sheltered areas having turned silver. Stock has a grain check on each side, otherwise wood is sound with a few light handling & storage nicks & scratches and overall retains 97-98% orig varnish showing light diamond-point wear on the stock and moderate to heavy wear on forearm. Mechanics are fine. Bright shiny bore. 49144-3 JR (17,500-27,500)
