RARE DELUXE MARLIN MODEL 1897 LEVER ACTION RIFLE.MARLIN189721192822MODERN; C&RCal. 22. Beautiful deluxe ’97 with special order 24” oct to rnd bbl, 2/3rds magazine, gold bead front sight, slot blank in rear seat, and locking Lyman tang sight with target disc. Mounted with very nicely figured, A-style checkered American walnut with serpentine grip stock and Marlin hard rubber buttplate. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter which identifies this rifle in Cal. 22 with 24” ½ oct bbl, pistol grip and ½ magazine, shipped April 30, 1901. According to Marlin Firearms, Brophy, there were about 81,000 of this model rifle produced 1897-1916. Of those surviving today, very few are found with strong orig finish. These rifles were considered to have been boys or ladies rifles and usually saw very hard services with little or no maintenance. CONDITION: Extremely fine+, all matching. Bbl & magazine tube retain about 98-99% strong orig blue with a couple small scratches on magazine tube. Forend cap retains about 95% bright orig blue. Receiver retains virtually all of its crisp, brilliant orig case colors, lightly faded on the bottom. Hammer retains bright case colors and the lever faded case colors. Wood is sound with only very few, very small handling & storage nicks & scratches and retains about 99% orig varnish. Mechanics are crisp. Brilliant shiny bore. 49121-1 JR (7,000-10,000)
