AFTER REMBRANDT VAN RIJN (European, early 19th century or earlier) DESCENT FROM THE CROSS.Oil on canvas Housed in a partial gilt wood frame Unsigned, the stretcher having three wax seals, one of the seals marked "Gemlalde Gal? Rolout?" The previous owner had research done by Dr. H. Zimmermann of the Museum in Berlin Accompanied by a printed 2-page illustrated brochure from Dr. H. Zimmermann of the Berlin Museum illustrating this painting and another with text in German referring to the possibility of the painting being by Christoph Paudiss (1618-1666) SIZE: 35" h x 25-3/4" w. Overall 40-3/4" h x 32-1/4" w. CONDITION: Lined, craquelure, consolidated varnish layer, several breaks in original canvas that have separated from lining 49339-2 WAG (1,000-2,000)
