JAMES HENRY CAFFERTY (American, 1819-1869) BOY IN BLACK DRESS WITH GREYHOUND DOG.Oil on canvas portrait of a young boy in a black dress with laced bottom fringe and red bows on the arms. He holds by the collar a large brown greyhound type dog which has one leg up. The boy holds a whip and stands on a flower decorated floor covering. Housed in a replacement gilt flower decorated frame, signed lower left "J H Cafferty Dec 1859." SIZE: 50" x 40" Overall: 56" x 46-1/2" PROVENANCE: From a private New Jersey Collection; Purchased from Donny Malone Auction Gallery 8/23/98 CONDITION: Relined, areas around face & neck have been conserved and not inpainted, some inpainting, restored.
