NORTHEASTERN AMERICAN INDIAN CARVED WOODEN SPOON WITH "BEAR HEAD" EFFIGY. This beautiful wooden, possibly maple or butternut, spoon or ladle measures about 20" overall with large triangular bowl terminates into a carving of what appears to be stylized bear with details for ears, eyes, mouth and nose. Ladle is very fine overall with desirable hand-worn patina. This spoon or ladle probably dates from the early 19th century, but examples are known earlier.
