GROUP OF ELEVEN EARLY AMERICAN BASKETS, INCLUDING SIX NATIVE AMERICAN EXAMPLES.19th, early 20th-Century, New England. The group includes 3 New England woven baskets with fixed handles, a round carrying basket with 2 fixed handles, a graduated square basket with woven decoration at the shoulder. The Native American baskets including Algonquin and Passamaquoddy examples comprised of a square basket with fixed handles and red flat-weave details. A rectangular flat-weave basket with black and white decoration. Two shaped round baskets, the smaller with fixed handles and black flat-weave decoration; the larger with multiple rows of black flat-weave decoration. Two small round baskets with fixed handle and flat-weave black decoration. SIZE: Of varying dimensions. Group one: 6" h x 10" d largest. Group two: 6" h x 15" l x 12-1/2" w largest. 5-1/2" h x 4" d smallest. PROVENANCE: The Estates of Faye G. Montell & Hayden Goldberg of Brooklyn, NY & Gardiner, ME. CONDITION: The first group: broken bottom to one fixed handle basket. Remaining four baskets good overall. The second group: very good overall. 49830-39 HMG (800-1,200)
