MONUMENTAL AND EXTREMELY RARE PAIR OF CAST IRON BUDDHIST LIONS.Ming Period (1368-1644), China. Seated figures, one with a cub, the other a brocade sphere. Auctioneer's note: It is extraordinarily rare to find Chinese iron objects of this size and period today. Over the centuries as the demand for metal increased, objects such as these were melted down. These wonderful objects are truly rare in the iron form. SIZE: 45" x 30". PROVENANCE: The Personal Collection of Dr. Helga Wall-Apelt. CONDITION: Minor loss. 47671-69 JC (50,000-75,000)
