WINCHESTER 3RD MODEL 1873 OCTAGON BARREL FULL MAGAZINE RIFLE WITH FULL CRESCENT BUTT.WINCHESTER1873246002 B38 WCFCal 38 WCF. 24" oct bbl, blue finish, full magazine. Straight grained American walnut stocks with crescent butt. Bbl shows 2-line address in front of rear sight and cal mark at breech end. Standard sights. Receiver is of the stepped variety. Upper tang is marked "Model 1873" with finials. SN is stamped on the lower tang behind lever. Elevator is marked "38 cal". Stocks have varnish finish with crescent butt and steel fore-end cap. CONDITION: Very good to fine. Bbl and magazine tube retain 20% blue blending into a pleasing plumb brown patina with high-point wear and a few small dents. Bbl markings are sharp. Sights are very good. Bore is frosty with strong rifling. Receiver retains 60-70% bright blue overall with most of the loss at the front and on the upper tang. Side plates are somewhat scratched. Dust covers retains 60% bright blue with high point wear. Loading gate retains traces of bright blue. Elevator is a mustard patina with sharp mark and a slight dent. Upper tang mark is sharp. SN is sharp. Hammer retains generous traces of case color finish, especially in protected areas. Lever is a silver gray patina overall with traces of case color in protected areas. Stocks are very good and retain considerable amount of varnish finish, especially on right side of butt. Stocks are full size and have numerous handling marks overall. Buttplate is a silver gray patina. Fore-end cap retains 60% bright blue. A very nice early '73 rifle. Made in 1887. 49971-7 TEP (3,000-5,000)
