THIRD MODEL 1876 WINCHESTER OCTAGON BARREL FULL MAGAZINE RIFLE WITH CRESCENT BUTT. WINCHESTER 1876 2ND MDL 621X 45-75 Cal. 45-75. 28" oct bbl with full magazine. Blue finish, straight grained American walnut stocks with crescent butt. Bbl shows a 2-line Winchester bbl address with cal marking at breech end. Standard sights for this Model, rear sight is marked "1876" at the top. Receiver has a dust cover that operates on a rail that is integral with the receiver. Brass elevator has cal mark. Upper tang is marked "Model 1876". Lower tang has SN behind lever. SN has been partially obliterated by a sling swivel mount, which is not factory orig. Fore end cap also has sling swivel attached. There is a 4-piece steel cleaning rod in the compartment of the buttplate. PROVENANCE: The Estate of G. W. "Bill" Stewart of Sonora, Texas. CONDITION: Fine. Bbl and magazine tube retain 50% fading blue finish with high-point wear, muzzle wear and some abrasion at the breech. Sights are very good. Bore is bright with strong rifling. All bbl marks are sharp. Receiver retains 70% bright blue on the left side and about 30% bright blue on the right side with some blotching and light cleaning marks. Loading gate retains traces of fire-blue. Dust cover retains 50% bright blue finish. Hammer retains 80% case color which is vivid on the left side. Lever retains 20% case color in protected areas with some blotching on the bottom. Stocks are very good and full sized. Stocks show almost all of the varnish finish with mars and dents commensurate with the age of this rifle. Butt plate is a modeled brown patina with some erosion at the heal and toe. Fore end cap retains 20% blue blending with a gray brown patina. This is a fine condition Model 1876 rifle in a popular caliber and configuration. 49973-32 TEP (3,500-5,500)
