LATE 2ND MODEL 1876 WINCHESTER CARBINE. WINCHESTER 1876 CARBINE 2ND MDL 20580 45-60 Cal. 45-60. 22" bbl. Blue finish. Straight grained American walnut stocks with carbine buttplate and full length forend. Bbl has standard markings for this model and carbine sights. Rear sight is mounted in reverse and appears to be orig. There is no trace of another dovetail on bbl. Receiver is of 2nd model type with a screwed on guide for dust cover. Dust cover has no thumbprint. Saddle ring is mounted on left side. Brass elevator is marked "45-60". Upper tang is marked "Model 1876". Lower tang has SN behind lever. Buttstock has an "X" carved behind lower tang and is otherwise unmarked. Forearm is full length with single bbl band and forend cap with 1 1/2" of muzzle exposed. PROVENANCE: The Estate of G. W. "Bill" Stewart of Sonora, Texas. CONDITION: Very good. Bbl is dark brown patina overall with some marring on either side of bbl address. Bbl markings are sharp. Bore is dark with traces of rifling. Receiver is dark brown patina overall with some denting on receiver ring and scratching overall from an old cleaning. Elevator is a mustard brown patina with some dents and a faint cal. mark. Hammer and lever are a dark brown patina. Tang markings are sharp. Stocks are very good, full-sized with scratches and dents overall. Buttplate and bbl band are both gray-brown patina. A very good late 2nd model 1876 carbine. 49973-31 TEP (1,500-3,500)
